The update came after Beijing announced Meng Hongwei was under investigation in China.
Meng Hongwei poses during a visit to the headquarters of International Police Organization in Lyon, France, in May. It did not say why.
Meng Hongwei, who is also China´s vice minister of public security, "is now under investigation on suspicion of violating the law", according to a statement on the website of the National Supervisory Commission, which handles corruption cases involving public servants.
News of Meng's apparent disappearance comes after Chinese officials announced that Hollywood star Fan Bingbing, who also vanished without a trace several months ago, has been ordered to pay millions of dollars in alleged back taxes and penalties.
"Interpol has requested through official law enforcement channels clarification from China's authorities on the status of Interpol President Meng Hongwei", Jurgen Stock, the secretary-general of the global police body said in a statement.
She said she had not heard from her husband since this last message on September 25.

The Interpol General Secretariat in Lyon, France received the resignation of the organization's president, Meng Hongwei, 64, effective immediately, Interpol said in a statement Sunday. Ms Meng said he sent her an image of a knife that day, which she thought was a warning that he was in danger.
"I'm not sure what has happened to him", she said.
When Meng was named Interpol's president in November 2016, human-rights groups expressed concern that Beijing might try to leverage his position to pursue dissidents overseas.
Beijing, which had remained quiet about the 64-year-old's status since French officials announced his disappearance on Friday, said in a statement that Meng "is now under investigation on suspicion of violating the law".
'His job is very busy, ' she said.
It was about an hour later that China's National Supervision Commission issued its statement confirming Mr Meng had been detained.
It was unclear how Meng could have fallen foul of the Chinese authorities.
