"People say you are a survivor and I don't agree with that because I never felt like I was in jeopardy", said Bauman, who went through four rounds of chemo and underwent a double mastectomy in April.

A handful of women interviewed by The News Journal only knew of a couple of other DE women who have metastatic breast cancer.

With two years left on the grant, there's a lot of work still to be done, Murphy said, yet they are confident the efforts will continue to save lives.
"However we understand that once you are able to do this in a normal frequency as determined by your healthcare provider there are no harmful effects at all".
"Further studies are needed to estimate more precisely the extent to which a shorter pregnancy and heavier firstborns increase women's risk of developing breast cancer, and to study the possible causal mechanism in more depth".
