Alongside the PS4 Pro itself, which launches on 24th August, the package will bundle in a custom DualShock 4 controller, a dark blue vertical stand, and a matching PlayStation Camera for those looking to get a head start with PlayStation VR. Sony is celebrating the milestone by releasing a rather lovely, blue PS4 Pro Limited Edition.
Those of you lucky enough to snap one up will also receive a commemorative copper plate, featuring a limited edition serial number.
Few companies enjoy a limited edition anything more than Sony enjoys a limited edition PlayStation, and the Japanese company is at it again. And much like the PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary Edition, I think you know what happened to most of those.
Sony has today announced that 500 million PlayStations have been sold worldwide and to celebrate, they're doing something special. The console will be on sale from August 24 and will cost $500. The console will be priced at $499.99 Dollars or $639.99 CAD, and Lempel notes that "these special hardware units will be in very, very, limited quantities", with only 50,000 units planned to be released worldwide.
The controller will also be available separately, alongside a "Gold Wireless Headset 500 Million Limited Edition". The limited edition DS4 and Gold Wireless Headset will be available in select retailers across the US and Canada in early September.
"Extra Special" serial numbers like 09995, which is the U.S. launch date of the original PS, will be available. The first is primarily a sizzle reel of all the great games that helped the PlayStation brand surpass half a billion sales.
