"Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu responded on Twitter, saying, "(T) he effort by the USA to impose sanctions on our two ministers will not go unanswered.

"Pretty straightforward", Pompeo said. "It's pretty straightforward. Pastor Brunson is an innocent pastor and they need to let him return to the United States".
"We are going to work to see if we can find a way forward", he emphasized.
Brunson was accused of helping supporters of Fethullah Gulen, the us -based cleric who Turkish authorities say masterminded the 2016 coup attempt against Erdogan in which 250 people were killed. He is facing a 35-year sentence if convicted of the charges of "committing crimes on behalf of terror groups without being a member" and espionage. He was also charged with supporting outlawed Kurdish PKK militants. Gulen denies the allegations.
On Friday, the currency fell to 5.1140 against the dollar.
