"Being ranked among the best hospitals in IL and the region is a prestigious honor", says Matthew Primack, President of Advocate Christ Medical Center. Four medical specialties are ranked in the top 20 in the nation, and six more are ranked in the top 50.
The U.S. News report ranks hospitals nationally, by state, regionally and by specialty.
Florida Hospital Orlando ranked fifth in the state. The hospital was also named high performing the following adult procedures: heart bypass surgery, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hip replacement knee replacement and lung cancer surgery. For example, University of MI was ranked in ear, nose and throat (1), gynecology (2), pulmonology (5 tie), urology (5), cardiology (8), cancer (15) and orthopedics (21).
The report also ranks hospitals in 16 specialties. On the local list, Sacramento's UC Davis Medical Center again came in at No. 1 and Sacramento's Sutter Medical Center was ranked No. 2. "Our talented team of affiliated physicians and employees provide every patient with compassionate care focused on the individual needs of their rehabilitation journey, while our teams of research professionals are leaders of innovative studies to identify breakthroughs in rehabilitation". The rankings are based on its patient care performance and other key factors.
In psychiatry, the U.S. News & World Report's rankings distinguish the best hospitals for patients experiencing difficult-to-treat disorders and are based on reputation derived from three years of surveys from physicians nationwide who are board certified in psychiatry.
U-M's medical facility opened in 1869 and was the country's first university-owned hospital. No Sacramento-area hospital was ranked below average in any category. Baptist Health Lexington came in second in the state, followed by third-place Baptist Health Louisville.
"Patients still have to do their own research and talk with their doctor", U.S. News said in its explanation of the annual rankings. In the 2017-18 rankings, UCD ranked 12th in gynecology, 26th in nephrology, 22nd in urology and 41st in the ear, nose and throat specialty.
U.S. News assess hospitals in 25 different areas - 16 areas of complex care and nine standard procedures and conditions.
Out of almost 5,000 hospitals analyzed nationwide, Penn Medicine is among only 20 institutions to be named to the publication's 2018-2019 Honor Roll. "We thank them for their great work and commitment to delivering on our goal of helping people live well as together we reimagine health and transform care delivery in Illinois, Wisconsin and beyond".
