There is a new baddest man on the planet, and his name is Daniel Cormier!
Cormier (21-1-1NC) flattened the UFC's long-reigning heavyweight champ with a right uppercut out of a clinch.
By doing so, Cormier becomes only the second fighter in UFC to possess titles in two weight classes simultaneously. The first was Conor McGregor, who accomplished the feat in late 2016. Miocic was not impressed and actually shoved the ref, but he was done and only taking more damage.
Cormier dismissed the idea of him fighting contenders like Curtis Blaydes, but said he may be convinced to drop back down to light heavyweight to defend his title.
Lesnar, likely the biggest pay-per-view draw in UFC history, is widely expected to return to MMA later this year or early next year.
Cormier then touched on the appeal of a fight with a star like Lesnar, and explained why, despite Lesnar's shady history, it's a priority over a fight with a heavyweight contender like Curtis Blaydes, or a light heavyweight contender like Alexander Gustafsson. It's exactly what he did against Oezdemir, a devastating puncher like Miocic, until he was able to get the fight to the floor where the former Olympic wrestler lives and breathes.
DC came into the fight as a challenger to Miocic's undisputed heavyweight title but left as a two-weight world champion. "I never knew what I could become, but tonight I got the answer".
"It's the same, man, these guys are all the same", Cormier said "I approach them all the same way". He's a former UFC champion. So as great as Anderson Silva was, he tested positive I think two times.
In the Co-Main Event at UFC 226 Heavyweight Derrick Lewis continued his progression up the Heavyweight ranks with a decision victory over Francis NGannou.
But Cormier provided all the fireworks necessary with his demolition of Miocic, who had held the heavyweight belt for over two years. Cormier swarmed, the referee had no choice but to stop the fight.
Well, according to an interview with Michael Bisping on UFC on FOX just hours before the fight, Daniel had it all worked out in his head before ever stepping foot in the t-Mobile Arena.
Now we are here, and the biggest fight the UFC can make is right in front of us.
