Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella attending the unveiling event of a new Surface Pro device in NY on May 20, 2014. The company tweeted out the leading question "Where will Surface go next?" along with an image of the full lineup - the Pro, Laptop, Book 2 and swiveling all-in-one Studio. The Redmond-based tech giant has confirmed that it will be rolling out an LTE model later this year. The gains dropped off post-Broadwell, but the 4415Y has 50 percent more GPU execution units than the old x7-Z8700, a base clock that's 1.75x higher, and a boost clock that's 1.33x higher.
But if you want a tablet rather than a PC, the Surface Go doesn't make much sense.
Prices for the Surface Go start at £379.99, but no upper limit has now been stated.
Naturally, the Surface Go also offers a built-in kickstand that "extends to 165 degrees helps you stay in your flow from tablet to studio mode", and a front-facing camera that supports Windows Hello authentication.
Microsoft has revealed its long-rumoured smaller Surface device - and to The Register's mind it looks a lot like the re-invention of the netbook.
Microsoft release a US$499 Surface 3 tablet in 2015, but discontinued the product in 2016. Our team worked closely with Intel to optimize power, performance, and battery for the most critical tasks people perform every day.
As it's essentially geared for running Office, doing some light photo editing and streaming content on Netflix or YouTube, it's not really going to be a complete powerhouse. This new Type Cover also comes with a glass trackpad with Windows Precision drivers.
In terms of connectivity, Microsoft has stated that it comes with the Surface Connect charging and docking port alongside a USB Type-C connector "for data, video and charging". It also includes facial login by way of Microsoft's Windows Hello system, similar to Apple's FaceID, as well as a MicroSD card slot to expand its storage. The Surface Go is just just 8.3mm thick and weighs 520g sans keyboard and stylus (optional extras). There is no indication if this will simply be a preorder phase for the tablet or if they will actually start shipping on 7/13.
Available for pre-order in selected markets starting from today onwards, the 4GB/64GB version of the device will go for United States dollars 399 (about RM 1604) while the 8GB/128GB model is listed at USD 549 (about RM 2206).
