An article by Hartley had contended that Ramos had harassed a woman on Facebook and he had pleaded guilty to criminal harassment. He was held without bail.
As the New York Post reports, a reporter from the Baltimore station WBAL-TV said that a woman who had allegedly been stalked by Ramos warned police years ago of his potential for violence.
"There is nothing in those complaints that prove that anything that was published about you is, in fact, false", the judge said, according to court documents.
Investigators are reviewing Ramos's social media postings and searching his apartment, where Altomare said they found evidence that he had been planning the attack. I can't help but believe that President Trump's bullying behavior and politically based efforts to divide rather than unite our society - "us" against "them" - has unleashed a violent impulse among haters and malcontents among us.
McCarthy says he became a target of Ramos' rage after representing a woman in 2011 who accused Ramos of stalking her and threatening her online. The request was denied. Jarrod W. Ramos, a 38-year-old Laurel man, was charged Friday with five counts of first-degree murder. Four journalists and an advertising saleswoman were killed.
PC Altomare said the suspect had been "uncooperative".
It had been dormant since January 2016.
This photo combination shows the victims of the shooting in the newsroom of the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Md., on Thursday, June 28, 2018. Journalists recounted hiding under desks as they heard colleagues being shot and the gunman apparently reloading. Dow, 62, who now lives in West Orange, said Winters was a memorable "character", whose close friends included Dow's own father, despite his being 30 years older than her friend.
When I called before Shabbat to tell her I was thinking of her and her family, she told me they were all still numb from the shock, that several of the victims were known and admired by just about everyone in town, and that her son came home that bad night dreading going to five funerals. Each morning when he wakes up, McCarthy says se looks out the window to make sure Ramos isn't near his home.
The mayor of Annapolis, Gavin Buckley, addressed public views of the press after the attack on Thursday.
Saturday's paper relied heavily on the Sun's reporting staff. Only hours after the shooting, a Capital Gazette reporter tweeted: "I can tell you this: We are putting out a damn paper tomorrow". "We are in a Mayberry kind of town, we're in shock we're going to be grappling with". They're writing about their neighbors, people they may interact with at a PTA meeting or see on Main Street. The state has adopted a new policy that allows police to seek temporary removal of guns from someone who exhibits an "extreme risk".
He also posted multiple times about the 2015 attack at the French magazine Charlie Hebdo, even including photoshopped images of one magazine staff member with a bullet hole in his head and blood on his face.
Amid an increasingly hostile environment for journalists in the USA, focus fell on remarks made by Judge Maureen Lamasney when she dismissed Ramos's defamation lawsuit against the newspaper in 2013. We're not evil. We're just regular working people trying to tell stories from our communities.
