Trudeau responded with a written statement, saying his comments in public and in private with Trump were "nothing he hasn't said before" and that he was "focused on everything we accomplished here at the G-7 summit".
PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, "US Tariffs were kind of insulting" and he "will not be pushed around".
He will also be gone before allies begin closing news conferences likely to be critical of the US stance on trade and Trump's suggestion that Russian Federation be re-admitted to the G7.
Besides the escalated risk of a trade war, Trump's blistering personal attack on Trudeau poses domestic economic and political risks for the Canadian prime minister, who has stuck to a conciliatory stance in the face of USA threats on NAFTA and other bilateral trade cases.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he will impose retaliatory measures to answer President Trump's tariffs on steel and aluminum: "Canadians: we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around".
Trump is painting a highly inaccurate tariff picture - wrongly suggesting everyone else has high tariffs while United States has none.
"He can take that nation and truly make it a great nation so it is a one-time shot and I think it is going to work out very well", Mr. Trump said.

Trump's tirade came before he was to leave for Singapore for his historic summit with the North Korean leader North Korea's Kim Jong Un.

Trump is hoping to get Kim to agree to shut down his nuclear weapons programme in what will be a monumental win for the president who previous year was locked in a war of words with Kim that some feared would escalate into a world war.
Unnamed advisers told the paper Trump also complained about his awkward relationships with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister Theresa May.
As he headed to a G7 summit in Canada, Mr Trump said: "Russia should be in the meeting".
"The American President may not mind being isolated, but neither do we mind signing a 6 country agreement if need be", Macron said.
Trump threatened to impose even more tariffs against those countries if they did not take down their barriers to USA trade. "But he doesn't bring up the fact that they charge us up to 300% on dairy - hurting our Farmers, killing our Agriculture", the United States president said. "With one country we have $375 billion in trade deficits". Trump said Friday he thinks the group will produce a joint statement.
"You go tariff-free, you go barrier-free, you go subsidy-free", Trump opined, calling it "the ultimate thing". The United States pays enormous tariffs on dairy. They could also damage Japan and Germany.
