US President Donald Trump on Wednesday broke his silence about the racism row engulfing supporter Roseanne Barr, not to condemn her outburst but to attack ABC television for purported media bias.

They say ABC's issue is that the characters in Roseanne were created by Barr and Matt Williams, and if the sitcom carried on without her she would still rake it in. "I am going to tell you the truth, she wanted it to happen, if you saw how her tweets escalated this weekend".

On feeling it wouldn't last long: "I was not surprised that what went down and that the show was canceled". The saddest part of all is 4 Jayden Rey on the show whom I grew2 love so much & am so ashamed of myself that she would ever think I do not love her bc she is African American.

She said the long-time, well respected political figure was what you would get if Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes "had a baby".

"I'm exhausted of being smeared over a stupid mistake erasing 30 years of activism", she said in one.

Barr has posted more than a hundred tweets since "Roseanne" was canceled, and many of them are defiant. "I wasn't gonna get an Emmy anyway", he said when asked if he thought the Barr controversy would cost him the award.

"It had to happen", Arnold said.

In the clip, both Roseanne and Trump praised Moore's 1989 documentary Roger and Me, about the downfall of Flint, Michigan following General Motors' closing of several plants in the company town.

"Roseanne" had returned to USA screens in March after a 21-year hiatus with Barr's character recast as a Trump supporter in a rare depiction of working class life on the U.S. small screen.

Wednesday evening, Barr, 65, tweeted of fellow co-stars Goodman and Laurie Metcalf, "I just wish ABC had not thrown two of the greatest actors in the world out with me-Laurie and John".

"Guys I did something unforgiveable so do not defend me", she wrote in another post.

"I end by offering everyone involved one more apology and prayers for healing of our divided nation", Barr wrote.

Executive producer Tom Werner, who was behind the first iteration of "Roseanne" when it ran from 1988 to 1997, and Gilbert are supposed to meet with writers in the coming days, Deadline reported.

Stars including Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory"), Mindy Kaling, and "Girls" creator Lena Dunham called for a spin-off centered around the other members of the Conner family.
