Word does get around, however, and the prospect of a meeting between Kim and Trump had already been on the public's radar.
When he previously appeared at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in South Korea with the same Donald Trump lookalike, he was escorted out by security after waving and dancing in front of North Korea's cheerleaders. "This is a very major operation because it's a high-profile meeting and we can not afford to have anything go wrong", he added.
Travelling with him were top officials including foreign minister Ri Yong Ho, defence minister No Kwang Chol and Kim Yong Chol, a close aide who has been instrumental in the diplomacy that culminated in Tuesday's summit.

Sources told CNN that United States officials have established a contingency plan for a potential second day of discussions between Trump and Kim depending on the direction of their planned meeting on June 12.
After North Korea carried out a series of long-range missile tests that potentially put the USA mainland in range of a nuclear strike, Trump promised to respond with "fire and fury".
Mr Trump could also consider opening an American embassy in Pyongyang, the report said.
It will be the first time that a sitting USA president and a North Korean leader have met.
It initially was meant to rid the North of its weapons, to forge the "complete denuclearization" of the country.
Those points were echoed in Monday's media coverage, which stressed that the talks with Trump would be focused on forging a relationship that is more in tune with what it called changing times - most likely meaning the North's new status as a nuclear weapons state - its desire for a mechanism to ensure a lasting a durable peace on the Korean Peninsula and, finally, denuclearization.
