KXIP vs KKR Live Score

A photo of beloved Toys R Us mascot Geoffrey has gone viral after he was snapped with a small suitcase, saying goodbye to the chain.

A new post from the Toys "R" Us Facebook page is teasing that the brand isn't quite done yet, a post that reads "Stay tuned here for news and information on the next chapter for Geoffrey and the iconic Toys "R" Us brands". The photo was taken by Rene Johnpiere, who appears to work at a Toys "R" Us.

In a dire retail landscape, more than 8,000 USA shops closed in 2017, roughly double the average annual store closures in the previous decade, according to data from the International Council of Shopping Centres.

In January, it announced plans to close about 180 stores, but then in March it said it would liquidate the rest of the 700-plus stores.

After more than 60 years in business, the industry giant is the latest casualty in the ongoing demise of brick-and-mortar retail stores as more and more shoppers turn to online retailers and big-box stores like Walmart and Target that offer one-stop shopping destinations.

Will the Toys R Us name and mascot disappear forever?

The toy store opened its doors 70 years ago. "I was surrounded by children". Days before filing for bankruptcy, Toys "R" Us executives drew millions in bonuses, a scenario that didn't sit well with rank-and-file workers.

- Well, it's the day we all knew was coming. and now it's here.

Whether or not the zoo reaches its fundraising goal, the store closures and empty shelves do not mark the end of the memories so many people have of Toys "R" Us.
