The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan.

"If the crescent is sighted by Muslims of impeccable character on the said evening, His Eminence would declare Friday, 15th June, 2018 as the first day of Shawwal and the day of 'idul fitr". "Allah has made this Eid a declaration of happiness and joy after the completion of worship, that embodies the meanings of communication, cohesion and compassion, as well as sublime values of tolerance and solidarity", he said, while asking Almighty Allah to make the Eid a festival of joy and pleasure for all Muslims.
