Champions Manchester City gave their departing midfield colossus Yaya Toure the ideal Etihad send-off by returning to record-breaking mode with a 3-1 rout of Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday.
And City smashed Chelsea's record of most points in a season, with the win taking them to 97, two points more than Chelsea's previous record of 95.
We will have to wait and see if they can reach 100 points, but even if not, it's been a fantastic season. Can they do it? I think, especially, the Brighton team didn't want me to score but the most important thing was we broke the record, we scored more goals.
"It's fantastic because we did that (break the records) in the day we always will remember - the day for Yaya".
His outing was his first Premier League start of the season with his previous nine appearances having come off the bench.
The new records set by City in this game saw them surpass Chelsea in all three categories.
"We've managed to get some good results against the top six at home and make games as close as possible - Tottenham away and Chelsea away when for long periods we were very much in the games".
"But in terms of statistics and numbers, this season we were the best, and that's why we are so satisfied. A team will arrive and do better but they'll have to do really well".
Guardiola would not be drawn on whether the former Gunners midfielder is likely to leave, however.
"We will give him what he deserves, one of the most handsome farewells a player can receive", City manager Pep Guardiola wrote in the match programme. He lives only a short time from here, and he's loved, from what I felt today in the crowd, and the people in locker room now. I said I am going to show you the way.
Kompany said: 'I want to say thank you to this man; thank you for being such a wonderful teammate.
Leroy Sane is set for new contract talks at Manchester City.
