Harvey Weinstein, who fell from the top of the Hollywood establishment when sexual harassment and abuse allegations against him surfaced previous year, was arrested in New York City on Friday on charges that he raped one woman and forced another to perform oral sex.
Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein was charged with rape and a sex crime in NY on Friday, in what was hailed a landmark for the #MeToo movement, almost eight months after his career imploded in a blaze of accusations of misconduct.
Earlier, he entered a police station carrying books that harkened to his show business roots: one on the Broadway songwriting team of Rodgers and Hammerstein, and another about famed film director Elia Kazan. There, a judge set bail at $1 million cash or $10 million bond and assigned Weinstein to wear a monitoring device that he must pay for himself.
The film producer was to face criminal sex act and rape charges in a NY court, according to a law enforcement official who wasn't authorized to discuss the case and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. "Mr Weinstein did not invent the casting couch in Hollywood".
Speaking to the New Yorker on Thursday, Evans confirmed she was pressing charges, "They said that if I do nothing, Harvey would walk". If they find evidence of that Weinstein could face federal charges.
Police in Los Angeles and London have also been investigating reports filed against Weinstein by multiple women.

Numerous women, including several celebrities, have come forward with allegations that Weinstein repeatedly engaged in unwanted, inappropriate and aggressive sexual behavior since reports of his serial misconduct first surfaced previous year.

Weinstein has been released on bail, but has been told he can not travel outside CT and NY.
Rose McGowan, who accused Weinstein of sexually assaulting her back in 1997, was on ABC's "Good Morning America" Friday to discuss the 66-year-old Weinstein's arrest. Brafman says Weinstein vehemently denies the charges and will fight to get them dismissed. Argento posted two messages to her social media pages: "What took you so long, Harvey? and "Harvey Weinstein isn't smiling now", both accompanied by screenshots of Weinstein heading into the courtroom".
"Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein".
