The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says it has received a health alert from the Democratic Republic of Congo on Ebola outbreak.

NAN reports that the epidemic so far appears to be centred around the village of Ikoko Impenge, near the town of Bikoro.

There have been at least 17 deaths in the area where the Ebola outbreak was confirmed.

"This situation worries us and requires a very immediate and energetic response", he said at a news conference.

The statement reads: "Following a fresh outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has re-assured passengers and other airport users of safety across its network of airports".

The deaths occurred over a period of time and Ebola, which is not the only virus responsible for hemorrhagic fevers, has not been confirmed as the cause in any of the 17 cases, Ilunga said. There are various hemorrhagic fevers - including Ebola.

The minister clarified with The Associated Press that testing still must be done in nine cases, and equipment to conduct rapid testing on the patients has been dispatched. "We have isolated them". All of those could be traced back to Ikoko Impenge, about 60 km (37 miles) away from Bikoro, except for one from the next door hamlet of Pangi. The disease shows early symptoms similar to other diseases like typhoid and malaria-fever, headache, muscle pain and chills-and this makes it hard to identify it in its initial phases. No flawless cure has been found for the disease yet, but treatment focuses on supporting the body by providing fluids, replacing lost blood and treating other infections that develop.

The Nigeria football federation (NFF) may cancel the already scheduled global friendly match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Democratic Republic of Congo following a fresh outbreak of Ebola in the central African country. Without preventive measures, the virus can spread quickly between people and is fatal in up to 90 percent of cases.

Nigeria recorded its first case of Ebola in 2014 after a government official named Patrick Sawyer, who had been infected with the virus from Liberia, collapsed on arrival at the airport in country's biggest city, catching health authorities unawares. His mother and 10 others then showed similar symptoms. An outbreak has been detected in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
