Internationally, the Disney and Marvel blockbuster earned a huge US$343.1 million (S$458.4 million) worldwide this weekend, for a global cume of US$1.6 billion.
Infinity War's $257 million (Rs 1700 crore) tally broke Star Wars: The Force Awakens' $248 million opening weekend record in the United States, and The Fate of the Furious' $540 million worldwide opening record with a huge $641 million (Rs 4300 crore) haul.
Avengers: Infinity War is already placed in the 24th position in China's all-time highest-grossing films list and is also the second highest-earning superhero film, only behind Avengers: Age of Ultron, which raked in a lifetime theatrical revenue of 1.46 billion yuan.
IMAX locations in 19 territories including Korea, Italy, Brazil, Mexicoand the UAE all reported their best opening weekends ever with more than 25 markets recording their best IMAX Marvel openings including India, the UK, Japan, France, Germany and Argentina. The sequel is expected to have a domestic opening north of $150 million.
On its way to becoming the biggest Hollywood film in India with net earnings of over Rs 200 crore, Infinity War posted opening weekend numbers of over Rs 120 crore.
Box office figures of that size would probably be enough to stop Avengers: Infinity War ending up as 2018's biggest film in the UK.
A fourth Avengers film has been scheduled for release in one year.
The film has supplanted the lifetime worldwide total of films such as Jurassic World ($1.019 billion) and The Fate of the Furious ($1.010 billion), courtesy of the extraordinary opening in China, as of May 13.
It is also the first film in Singapore history to surpass $14 million, according to a press statement from Disney on Tuesday (May 15). Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
"Avengers 3" passed $500 million at the domestic box office over the weekend for a current domestic gross of $547,829,103.
It's next hurdle is Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $2.06 billion.
For the purposes of this article, I applied that same 51% increase to the opening for Avengers: Infinity War to form an estimate of how much more it will gross from China.
