Deadline reports that the actress filed suit against Weinstein on Monday over claims that the disgraced Hollywood producer sabotage her career for refusing his sexual advances.
The lawsuit, reviewed by Reuters, alleges that Weinstein "was retaliating against Ms Judd for rejecting his sexual demands approximately one year earlier, when he cornered her in a hotel room under the guise of discussing business".
To wrap up her speech, Ashley left the audience with a meaningful message telling them 'our rage become our strength, our energy and our motivation'.
"Weinstein's wrongful and outrageous conduct has not just deprived Ms. Judd of the specific opportunity to play a prominent role in a blockbuster film trilogy; it has had a long-lasting ripple effect on the trajectory of her whole career". (Ms. Sorvino has also accused Mr. Weinstein of harassment.) Although the "Lord of the Rings" movies were started at Miramax, a boutique studio run by Mr. Weinstein and then owned by Disney, the project moved to New Line Cinema before filming started.
"The actual facts will show that Mr. Weinstein was widely known for having fought for Ms. Judd as his first choice for the lead role in Good Will Hunting and, in fact, arranged for Ms. Judd to fly to NY to be considered for the role".
Notably, Weinstein also said in October 2017 that said that the way he "behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it".
Weinstein has previously denied trying to derail Judd's career.
Judd said in a statement that "financial recuperation will be donated to the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund, so that women and men in all professions may have legal redress for sexual harassment, economic retaliation and damage to their careers".
In December, "Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson spoke to the New Zealand publication Stuff and said that Weinstein made him blacklist certain female stars, including Judd. "A self-described 'benevolent dictator' who has bragged that 'I can be scary,' Weinstein used his power in the entertainment industry to damage Ms. Judd's reputation and limit her ability to find work".
