Governor Doug Ducey declared a State of Emergency in response to the Tinder Fire in Coconino County.
"I'm issuing today's declaration to ensure that they have the necessary resources to protect the lives, pets and property of Arizonans", Ducey said in a statement.
The Coconino County Sheriff's Office on Sunday ordered the immediate evacuation for Mosqui Ranchettes, Starlight Pines, Clear Creek Pines, Tamerron Pines, Ponderosa Pine, Timber Ridge, Pine Canyon, Blue Ridge Estates, Ponderosa Pine and Mogollon Ranch communities.
As of Monday morning the fire was at 8,600 acres with more than 500 personnel, many involved in structure protection of cabins in the area. Firefighters also successfully held the fire on the west side, along the 95 road. "We will continue to coordinate with state and local emergency response officials", said Governor Ducey.
Red Flag winds and dry conditions caused the explosive growth of the Tinder Fire Sunday.
An area of low pressure developing over Arizona will continue to blow airborne particulates, including smoke from the Tinder Fire, off to the northeast. The stronger the winds, the bigger the risk of the fire spreading rapidly due to the blowing embers sparking even more fires.
