Pep Guardiola has ruled Sergio Aguero out of Manchester City's trip to Tottenham Hotspur tonight and cast doubt over whether the Argentine will feature again this season as he struggles to return to full fitness. As soon as Chris Smalling's well-timed finish struck the back of Ederson's goal last Saturday to give United a 3-2 lead, numerous home fans at the Etihad Stadium turned to each other and lamented their collapse.
Pep Guardiola insists Manchester City's run in UCL, which ended in the quarterfinals, does not make them flops.
Guardiola seems to have caught the bug.
- Saints have only won one of their nine Premier League games against Chelsea at St Mary's Stadium (D2 L6), winning 2-1 in March 2013 thanks to goals from Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert. "But even after losing at Anfield, how we played against [Manchester] United was top. That has happened. We have to try to focus on our games".
Aguero suffered a knee problem that kept him out for a month before the Argentina striker managed two second-half substitute appearances in City's last two defeats - by Manchester United in the league and Liverpool in the Champions League.
Whilst Spurs were torn apart at the Etihad in December, Mauricio Pochettino's men have also shown no fear in their previous meetings with Guardiola's City.
Guardiola's side missed the chance to seal the title when they lost 3-2 at home to bitter rivals United last week, either side of two Champions League quarter-final defeats to Liverpool, and the Spaniard believes his side could still be vulnerable.
"I don't know about Swansea but hopefully he will be ready for the last games and the World Cup".
Guardiola cited the experience of Real Madrid in 2003-04.
That side, which included Zidane, Luis Figo, David Beckham, Iker Casillas and Raul lost six of their last seven games to finish seven points behind Valencia after leading by 11 points at one stage.
"Of course it can happen, I assure you".
"My feeling now is that United is going to win a lot of points, because they are in good shape, they have top players and they are going to win all six games, so we have to do it". We have to do it from tomorrow. If we are not able to in the end and United win the league then all we can says is "congratulations".
