Ingles was disappointing by his standards, putting up 13 points, two rebounds, and an assist in his 31 minutes; with a smothering George making life hard for him.
Ingles was schooled by Thunder All-Star Paul George in Sunday's game one but he responded on Wednesday with a defensive effort that George at just 18 points - down from 36 last time - and scoreless in the decisive last quarter. Gobert finished with 13 points and 15 rebounds, power forward Derrick Favors had 20 points and 16 rebounds, while the backcourt duo of Donovan Mitchell and Ricky Rubio combined for 50 points. You just aren't going to win many games - especially playoff games - when your three best scorers shoot that poorly down the stretch. Jaylen Brown finished with 20 points, and rookie Jayson Tatum added 19 points and 10 rebounds.
For context, Rubio, the current Jazz guard, played his first six National Basketball Association seasons in Minnesota but never once made it to the playoffs with them.
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday in Salt Lake City at 8 p.m. MDT.
Mitchell left Game 1 with left foot soreness but an MRI came back negative.
George missed 15 of his 21 field goals for the game. Carmelo Anthony had 17 points and 9 rebounds. "They've got guys like Corey Brewer, Paul George, who can attack the basket but at the same time we've got to get on Steven Adams".
And game two of the Oklahoma City Thunder's first-round series against the Utah Jazz didn't disappoint in that sense. Suddenly, that Utah lead was just one point, and after a timeout, the Thunder rattled off another 11 points, getting points from all five men on the floor during its 19-0 run to take a 10-point lead at 77-67 with just 54.4 seconds left in the period.
The Jazz had the NBA's best defense for the final 30 games of the season for a reason.
Oklahoma City had two chances in the final minute to trim Utah's lead with the Jazz leading 99-95, but Anthony missed 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions. He hit a deep 2-pointer to close the quarter and give the Thunder an 81-72 lead. I don't really have an answer to what happened or an excuse to why we didn't make shots. "Now it's our turn to make some adjustments and figure out what we're going to do", Anthony said. "Fourth quarter, we just didn't shoot the ball well".
