Former first lady Barbara Bush died on Tuesday at the age of 92. She was a major influence on husband John Adams, the nation's second president, but died before son John Quincy Adams was elected president in 1824.
In a story April 16 about the marriage of George H.W. and Barbara Bush, The Associated Press reported erroneously that they met when she was 17 and he was 18 and they married two years later. Darroch said as one of only two women to be the wife of one US president and the mother of another, "Barbara Bush was a very special person in American history".
"I had the best job in America", she wrote in a 1994 memoir describing her time in the White House. "I'm old", Mrs. Bush explained, "and my doctor tells me I need to swim every day".
