It provided #Kim Jong-un and his wife Ri Sol Ju an opportunity to enjoy the evening with South Korean singers and performers who had come to Pyongyang.
Kim warmly welcomed the South Korean art troupe's visit to Pyongyang and gave an enthusiastic response to its concert, which was held under the name "Spring Comes", according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). "I rearranged my schedule to come to the concert today", Kim said.
The second concert on Tuesday was joined by North Korea's Samjiyon Orchestra, which played in the South before the PyeongChang Olympics in February.
South Korean pop singers performed in the North during a past era of detente, but it was the first time a North Korean leader had attended a South Korean performance in the North's capital. However, Red Velvet was among the most popular groups performing that night.
"He exchanged warm greetings with them and warmly welcomed their Pyongyang visit", North Korea's official news agency KCNA wrote in a summary of the event.
The South Korean delegation included artists, concert staff, taekwondo demonstrators, reporters and government officials. The 26-second South Korean video clip showed a quiet audience when members of Red Velvet, wearing clothes less revealing than their normal stage costumes, danced and sang their popular hit song "Red Flavor".
The North Korean leader's face was slightly flushed in a group photograph with the performers distributed by North Korean state media.
"When such good atmosphere is preserved carefully and continuously, only the attractive spring when new buds sprout and flowers blossom and the rich autumn when the crops are abundant will always be in the way of our fellow countrymen", Kim said, according to North Korean media.
Kim Jong Un and his wife took time out to meet all the members after the performance.
In addition to the concert, a team of South Korean taekwondo demonstrators performed on Sunday at the Pyongyang Taekwondo Hall, drawing more than 2,300 North Koreans, including Choe Hwi, chairman of the National Sports Guidance Committee.
Drawing inspiration from a number of genres and effects, "Korean pop" is especially popular among younger South Koreans and briefly had a flash of fame in the West with Psy's 2012 hit "Gangnam Style".
K-Pop girl group Red Velvet did something that it has never done in the past. Vocalist of the group, Wendy, stated that the audience in North Korea "displayed a lot of positive reactions"; leader of the group, Irene, further added that the audience "smiled and clapped" for the group when they were running out of breath.
Friday, the two koreas have agreed to the date of 27 April for a summit that is extremely rare, the third of its kind after those of 2000 and 2007, which will take place in the border village of Panmunjom.
