Extending on the new 8 Series and the respective concept version, the M8 Gran Coupe concept showcases a stunning four-door coupe design that's meshed with the performance tones we've come to expect from BMW M. As such, BMW says this vehicle is further proving the brand's intent to make the 8 Series be the flagship of the brand and usher in a new design language. The sedan won't arrive until 2019.
Senior vice president of BMW Design Adrian van Hooydonk says the M8 Gran Coupe heralds the shift of the 8 Series taking over as the "big boy" among BMW's lineup. From the side, the M8 Gran Coupe looks long and sexy with its long wheelbase, long hood, flowing roofline and short tail.
The Concept M8 Gran Coupe's arrival follows the unveiling of the Concept 8-Series Coupe at last year's Villa D'Este Concorso D'Eleganza in Como, Italy, as well as the unleashing of an M8 Coupe prototype during a promotional event at the 2017 Nurburgring 24-hour endurance race in Germany.

The concept heralds a change in philosophy for BMW's design, with BMW's head designers calling it "exotic, ' 'alluring, ' and even 'polarising".
The long wheelbase of the concept is nearly dwarfed by the large features of the front fascia, meant to communicate a sense of performance, with the sleek line of the greenhouse skipping the flat plane roof of the 7-Series. Another spectacular detail of the show auto presented in Geneva is the Salève Vert paint finish that appears to change from green to greyish blue in different lights. "The contours of the radiator grille kidneys broaden as they descend toward the road, emphasising the car's low center of gravity".
We do like the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) use - the inlets, the roof panel are made of the lightweight composite - and we also dig the "Salève Vert" green paint, along with the aggressive shape of the trunklid spoiler.
