As a team, Bucknell is scoring 81.1 points per game on 47.2% shooting from the field, 34.3% from behind the arc and 71.7% from the foul line this season.
But the Huskers still look more tournament-worthy than some of these other teams that Lunardi and friends consider shoo-ins.
MI enters the tournament at 28-and-7 with nine straight victories and a Big Ten Tournament championship that they won a week ago in NY. Michigan State is favored to win. Michigan State is 2-8-2 ATS in their last 12 games overall and 1-4-2 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 NCAA tournament games. Their 26 wins are the most for their program since the 1991-92 campaign when they collected 27 victories.
All the ESPN Analysts picked the Spartans on their Bracketology show last night; just like they did in two recent even numbered years- 2016 and 2014.
The committee was right not to give the Spartans a better seed. UM won the tournament title. They seem to struggle most with three and four guard lineups, see MI in a 76-64 loss in the Big Ten tourney semifinals. A few to keep an eye on are No. 13 Buffalo (Arizona), No. 13 Marshall (Wichita State), No. 14 Montana (Michigan) and, yes, No. 16 Penn (Kansas).
UConn, Notre Dame, Louisville and Mississippi State are the No. 1 seeds in the women's basketball NCAA Tournament.
Keeping all of that in mind, my picks in the regional finals are Virginia over Tennessee, Villanova over Texas Tech, Michigan State over Seton Hall and Gonzaga over North Carolina.
The rest of the bracket isn't too bad though. The Tar Heels also beat UM handily on its home floor in December. The only teams ranked in the top 10 in both offensive and defensive efficiency are Duke and Michigan State. The Aztecs are No. 50, Houston is ranked 16th.
KEY TO THE GAME: The biggest key for MI in their opening-round tournament game against the Grizzlies will hinder on taking care of the basketball. It got a three seed and on paper, is as good as any team in the region.
Winston entered the Big Ten Tournament with a hot 3-point stroke, but has made just one of his last 11 attempts from beyond the arc. The modest upticks in those departments not only make him a bigger threat, but open more chances for the Wolverines' more primary scorers.
