While the Notch on the Huawei P20 Pro doesn't include technology that is as sophisticated as FaceID, it is the first P-series phone from the company to feature Face Unlock. It is covered with glass on both the front and the back with a metal frame in the middle.
Huawei said its new devices are created to deliver professional photography features in a smartphone, and all P20 series phones sport high-resolution front cameras in addition to improved rear camera systems.
The Kirin 970 features four ARM Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.36GHz and four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz, paired with the Mali-G72MP12 GPU. Under the hood, the devices come powered by the latest HiSilicon Kirin 970 AI chipset with a dedicated NPU.
Huawei's on-device AI capabilities introduce in the Mate 10 Pro return in the P20 as do features like fast charging.
Huawei has unveiled at an event in Paris its new flagship smartphone, the P20. Curiously, Huawei has moved the fingerprint sensor from the rear to the front of the handset.
Of the two, the Huawei P20 is the least interesting. It packs in a RGB, monochrome, and telephoto sensor to improve the smartphone's image taking versatility.
The camera can record 4K video. It also has 5x hybrid zoom, AI image stabilization, and 960fps super slow motion recording at 720p.
Although its internals are a big part of this, the AI smarts that both the P20 Pro and standard P20 have built-in will play their part too. It costs €679 in Europe. Both models will sport 128GB of storage.
On the front, meanwhile, there's a 6-inch, 18:9 aspect OLED display. The display is 0.3-inches bigger than the P20's display, and the display type is different as well (AMOLED vs. LCD).
Huawei, which overtook Apple in November past year to become the world's second-biggest smartphone vendor, unveiled the P20 line at the Grand Palais in one of the most photographed cities in the world, underscoring its camera capabilities. One of the sensors has an aperture of f/1.6 which makes it good for low light photography. The cameras can do 5x "hybrid zoom" and 3x optical zoom, thanks to the 8MP camera telephoto lens, which has nearly 3x magnification.
It also has f/1.8, f/1.6 and f/2.4 wide aperture to capture clear detailed images. It has all the camera features mentioned above- four-way autofocus, dual LED flash which takes help from the integrated colour temperature sensor.
I, obviously, didn't have any issues during the initial play with the P20 Pro. However, there is no wireless charging support or the presence of 3.5mm audio jack. The added scene detection will arrive with the update to Android 8.1 Oreo, although Yu wasn't sharing any timeline for when that will occur. It comes in Black, Blue, Pink Gold, and Twilight colors.
Moving onto the highlight of the launch event, the P20 Pro with its design, triple camera setup is set to give the Galaxy S9+ a run for its money. The P20 is available from £39 a month and £79.99 upfront with 16GB data on Vodafone.
First off, the main color sensor weighs in at a whopping 40MP which is one of the highest megapixel counts on a smartphone.
