"My being a lesbian or her being a lesbian, I think, has nothing to do with why we're running for office", Nixon said.
"Cynthia Nixon aggressively opposed my candidacy in NY, despite my qualifications for the office and despite my strong progressive credentials", she said. "It's a flight of fancy on her part", the former speaker said of the celebrity's decision to challenge incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary.
On the political front, Nixon made it clear where she stands on the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC).
"I'm proud of what we have achieved, and I am looking forward to working with Ms. Nixon and everyone else who shares my commitment to making government work better for all the people of NY state", Gipson wrote.
Thankfully, Nixon's former co-stars also believe that the Grammy, Emmy and three-time Tony winning actress may just be the ideal woman to knock Gov. Cuomo from his seat.
Cuomo was asked about the charges during a storm briefing in New York City. "It just makes no sense to me", said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, who is also gay.
One of the five categories is a hashtag: #CuomosMTA, a term used often by critics of the governor for New York's faltering subway system run by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Behind the scenes, Quinn was obviously doing the hit on behalf of her ally, Gov. Cuomo - who surely wanted the "unqualified" point hit hard, with the "lesbian" bit left unspoken. Now, she has made the gulf between New York's rich and poor a core message of her campaign for public office. "You may argue against her positions, but if you've voted for Trump, Schwarzenegger, or Reagan, claiming she's just 'an entertainer with no political experience" translates to 'She's a woman'.
In a series of tweets later Wednesday, Quinn attempted to clarify her remarks.
'I want to be clear about that. "I would never, EVER, criticize someone due to their identity", Quinn tweeted Tuesday afternoon. Having Teachout as her treasurer suggests she's surrounding herself with more politically experienced veterans.
"I've got to say, I'm not anti-Chris Quinn", Nixon says back then. He also noted that it's hard for first-time candidates to gain name recognition in the state, even if they are celebrities. I worked alongside her in the marriage fight, and I believe she was incredibly eloquent and incredibly effective.
