We've only spent a short time with the Zenfone 5 so it's too early to tell if these phones really do offer any kind of competition to Apple's handset, or indeed Samsung's new Galaxy S9. Asus claims to have added 4 0.06mm-slim carbon cooling pads to the new Zenfone 5 in order to control phone temperature. We don't know how much the ZenFone 5 is supposed to cost either when it goes on sale in April, but the ZenFone 5Z is coming in June, fetching a very reasonable 479 Euro, presumably in an entry-level 4GB RAM/64GB ROM configuration.
The Zenfone 5 series phones have 19:9 displays and ZenMoji - something like Apple's Animoji. The display is Full HD+ in terms of resolution and this is an IPS panel. The screen has Quad-HD resolution and is in 18:9 format.
You'll also get more storage here, with the base model of the Zenfone 5Z offering 128GB and the normal Zenfone 5 being restricted to just 64GB of space. There is another version also with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There will be three variants of it: 4GB/64GB, 6GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB - There is also a microSD slot that doubles as a second SIM card slot.
While we're on the subject of cameras, the Asus Zenfone 5 lite features dual front and rear facing cameras. Will you be waiting until July to get your hands on one? Both the cameras possess 3-axis EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) to stabilize shaky videos. The primary camera includes a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor paired with an f/1.8 aperture, 83-degree field of view and a Softlight LED flash. Running Android Oreo with ZenUI 5.0 on top, the device is backed by a 3300mAh battery. The phone will support AI charging tech.
In the end, what matters is bezels are becoming less and less noticeable, with the high-end ZenFone 5 duo boasting a (possibly) record-breaking 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. It comes with the octa-core Snapdragon 636 instead of the flagship 845. The Zenfone 5Z comes in 4GB/6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB internal storage variants.
The Asus ZenFone 5Z is the premium smartphone among the trio of new devices, and it has a premium aesthetic to match. But talking about availability the ZenFone 5z (ZS620KL) will be available in June, ZenFone 5 in April and ZenFone 5 Lite in March. This sensor is used for taking super-wide-angle shots like on LG's phones, but it can also be used for portraid shots as well. This brings its pixel density up to a good 400 PPI which means the phone will be suitable for most media consumption. The lower variant features a Snapdragon 430 processor clocked at 1.4GHz.
Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver are the two color options available for both Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5Z. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture. Asus did mention that the unit we were using was on beta software, so it's possibly just a bug.
16-megapixel rear, 20-megapixel, 120 degree wide-angle rear front. The smartphones include the same design, display size, cameras both front and back and battery set up. It ships with Android Nougat and not Oreo as some might have been expecting.
Both Zenfones have a 3,300mAh battery each with AI Charging technology.
