Law enforcement agencies and local politicians are expressing their condolences for the Westerville Division of Police after two officers were shot and killed Saturday. "They knew how to do policing the right way, both of them". He says they were responding to a "potential domestic situation". The shooting suspect was wounded in the incident and taken to a nearby hospital.
Holding back tears, Morbitzer described the veteran officers as "true American heroes" and "pillars in our department". They came under fire when they responded to the address connected with the call.
One officer was killed in the shooting and another died shortly after, according to Columbus Police.
No other information was immediately available. About an hour later, officials sent another tweet announcing the second death.
The chief described how Joering and Morelli reached the residence eight minutes after the 911 hang-up call was logged at 12:10 p.m., in the suburban city about 20 miles north of Columbus.
