Typically, the most monumental musical displays come from shows that center on the music industry but, for those who enjoy a good score, the Academy Awards always have a few tricks up their sleeves to bring the big screen to the stage.
This year's nominations were announced last month, with Guillermo Del Toro's The Shape of Water in the lead with 13 nominations. Blige wrote the Oscar-nominated song with Raphael Saadiq and Taura Stinson. This year's nominees are all set to perform during this year's show. In making the announcement, Oscars producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd said, "We're excited to have these talented artists showcase the powerful contribution music makes to filmmaking".
"The Shape of Water" cleaned up and James Franco was snubbed.
The track, nominated in the Best Original Song category, has been composed and penned by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. He co-wrote the lyrics. Whether or not Coco secures the Academy Award, the performance feels noteworthy, since Spanish-language or bilingual songs rarely get shine on the Oscars stage. The three-time Grammy champ won this Oscar in 2014 for "Glory" from the film "Selma".
The 90 Oscars will be telecast at 8 p.m. March 4 on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
