The 17-year-old is however yet to start a Premier League for the defending champions, but his stupendous performances in the Carabao Cup has prompted Sunderland to seek for his signature before the window closes.

"Jake is exactly the type of hungry young player I have spoken about and he has shown me just how keen he is to come to here and play in front of our supporters". He's made two first team appearances for Chelsea, with John Terry saying he's good enough to one day become a first team regular.

This season the youngster has spent the first half of the campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Clarke-Salter was also part of the U20 World Cup squad with England in June and has since been promoted to the U21 set-up.

Sunderland will hope to have Clarke-Salter signed for their next match against Cardiff City.

Clarke-Salter has been at Chelsea since the age of eight and has won multiple FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League medals with the Blues.
