The NFL will reduce its presence in London by one game in 2018, from four to three, the league announced Thursday morning. The Eagles will play the visitor to the home team Jaguars while the Raiders and Seahawks will play as will the Chargers and Titans.
The Seahawks vs. Raiders matchup will be the NFL's debut game played at the new Tottenham Hotspur venue.
Gridiron fans will be able to sample the action once again at Wembley, as well as at Tottenham Hotspur's brand new stadium. The Jaguars, whose owner Shad Khan also owns EFL Championship side Fulham FC, and Chargers will serve as the home teams for those games.
The game will be played in week six of the season on October 14.
One of the jokes about the NFL's games in London has been that we annually send the United Kingdom bad matchups. Only three teams remain: the Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans. "We will be doing a lot of leg-work during this offseason to ensure we make that week as normal as possible for our team, but we are excited as an organization to be part of this game".
Seattle is one of the six teams that has yet to play a regular-season game in London.
"We believe there will be an National Football League team in the United Kingdom, and we want Tottenham to be the home of that team", Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy told reporters.
Even the chief executive of England's Football Association pointed out the benefits of having NFL games in London. Oakland hasn't exactly packed the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum to the gills, and owner Mark Davis has willingly traded a true home game for an worldwide one. Considering both teams were heavy playoff contenders this year, it could potentially be one of the better games that have been held in London in recent memory.
