Yahoo's Shams Charania reported on Monday that the Knicks are looking to part ways with Noah after he had a "heated verbal exchange" with head coach Jeff Hornacek and was sent home for two games. When Noah signed a 4-year, $72 million contract with the Knicks in the 2016 offseason, it not only confirmed that Phil Jackson never should've been hired, it left the rest of the basketball world laughing.
In the midst of a season during which Noah has appeared in just seven of a possible 50 games, it appears as though the already unstable situation has taken a turn for the worst.
Buyout: Noah would have to be willing to sacrifice a portion of what he's owed between this season and the final two years of his contract.
There's uncertainty about whether Noah will rejoin the team in NY this week, league sources said. The Knicks are not giving any indication of when, or if, Noah will return.
There was a time when any team in the league would have loved to have Joakim Noah on their roster.
Waive via the stretch provision:?The Knicks can waive Noah and decrease the cap hit they'll incur for Noah's contract over the next two summers via the stretch provision, but using this tool on Noah isn't ideal. Sources told ESPN that Noah has no inclination to give up a significant amount of guaranteed money in a potential buyout.

"From Noah's view, this was a far cry from the plan that had been discussed - not to mention a disrespectful way to treat a veteran who hadn't played in the previous 10 games."
Of course, the Knicks would like to get out of Noah's contract.
Trade other centers:?Opposing teams have expressed interest in centers Enes Kanter, Kyle O'Quinn and Willy Hernangomez ahead of the February 8 trade deadline. With virtually no trade value, the Knicks will have to sacrifice a young asset or draft pick if they want to make a deal. If either O'Quinn or Kanter is traded, the coaching staff would likely give Hernangomez the opportunity to take the departing center's minutes, keeping Noah out of the regular rotation. His season ended past year after just 46 games when he was shut down with a knee problem, and then he served a 20-game suspension for a drug violation that bled into this season.
