At least nine persons were feared dead on Friday in a avalanche that hit a border area in Tanghdar sector in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara.
Police official told Kashmir Life over the phone that rescue operation is going on to trace out the missing people.
According to reports that total number of people killed in the avalanche has risen to ten.
The passenger cab was hit by a huge avalanche of snow this afternoon on the Kupwara-Tangdhar road in Jammu and Kashmir, police said. The authorities have rushed SDRF and mountaineer rescue teams for help.
Officials said that the Rashid is now undergoing treatment at District Hospital Kupwara while Bhat has been shifted to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment. The body of a Beacon officer was recovered last night after the rescue operations were launched, Jehangir said.
He said instructions have been given to Deputy Commissioner Kupwara to release the relief immediately.
Local sources in the area said that Sadhna Top is one of the far-flung areas of the Valley and people there have always been demanding a tunnel to make safe their travel in winter. "Without the local volunteers, it was quite impossible to recover the bodies in the record time keeping in view the tough terrain and bad weather", he said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has directed the Kupwara district administration to ensure all possible medical assistance to the injured in the accident. Conveying sympathies with the bereaved families, the Minister prayed for peace to the departed souls.
