Undoubtedly, she's opening herself up to a whole new round of attacks by those who side with Moore - those, like the governor of Alabama, Kay Ivey, who shockingly said at one point during the fiery campaign season that she believed Corfman and her fellow accusers, but that she would vote for him nonetheless because he's a Republican. She said her defamation suit will allow her to "seek to do what I could not do as a 14-year-old - hold Mr. Moore and those who enable him accountable".
Corfman told the Washington Post on November 9 that Moore had groped and kissed her when she was 14, and he was a 32-year-old district attorney.
Moore repeatedly tried to discredit Corfman, and the other women, throughout the campaign. Wearing only undershorts, Mr. Moore touched Ms. Corfman's private parts through her bra and underpants and guided her hand to touch his penis.
During her speech on December 11, Kayla Moore infamously responded to an anti-semitism claim against her husband, Alabama's former Supreme Court chief justice, by saying: "I just want to set the record straight".
Tellingly, Mr. Moore initially suggested to Mr. Hannity that he "dated a lot of young ladies", including teenage girls, when Mr. Moore was in his 30s, and stated with regards to these allegations, including Ms. Corfman's: "I'm not going to dispute anything, but I don't remember anything like that". She also seeking the costs of the lawsuit and "further relief as permitted by law and as the court deems appropriate".
The decision to sue Mr. Moore and his campaign committee was hard, but they need to be held responsible for their actions. I believe they're brought only to stop a very successful campaign, and that's what they're doing. She is asking for a declaratory judgment of defamation, a public apology from Moore, and a court-enforced ban on him or his campaign publicly attacking her again.
Moore's lawyer declined to comment to WaPo on the lawsuit against his client and the campaign. "I had an experience of the reality of God at 33", Wishnatsky said.
Corfman and her mother have said that Moore first approached her as she waited outside a custody hearing at the Etowah County courthouse. It's hard to see how all of this could be fabricated apart from a genuine conspiracy theory. Roy Moore never had a convincing response to her story.
