With temperatures in the single digits and wind chills even lower, people are bundling up if they choose to head outside. Wind chill temperatures from 0 to 15 below zero will be common, with the coldest wind chill temperatures early New Year's Day morning.
On Friday, the NWS released a Hazardous Weather Outlook warning of the likelihood of risky wind chills ranging anywhere from 15 to near 30 below zero in the region and continued bitterly cold temperatures through the coming week. In addition, consider bringing your pets indoors. High temperatures even under sunny skies will be lucky to reach the 5 degree mark, perhaps establishing a new record-cold high temperature for January 1 - the standing record of 5 degrees was set back in 1969. There is a slight chance of snow later tonight.
