In December 2002, while on injured reserve from the Packers, Frost served as a temporary graduate assistant for the Huskers, the last time he set foot on campus as part of the football program. Frost is in his second year with the Knights.

According to Feldman, Nebraska's athletic director Bill Moos has been calling recruits and telling them Frost has 90% of his staff in place.

"It is a great honor and privilege to have the opportunity to return to Nebraska and to lead the Husker football program", Frost said. The program's rise to an undefeated record follows an 0-12 mark in 2015.

Frost will lead a Nebraska program in the midst of a two decade slide from national prominence that's included the firing of four coaches since 2003.

"I am thrilled that [Frost] is returning to his alma mater to lead the Husker football program", Moos said. Nevertheless, all of this was leaked while UCF is on the field competing in the AAC Championship Game, which it won 62-55 in dramatic fashion in double overtime against Memphis. Success has followed Frost throughout both his coaching and playing career. Frost finished his Nebraska career with 2,677 pass yards, 1,534 rush yards and 46 total touchdowns.

As a senior in 1997, Frost was an Academic All-American and a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. "STAY!" chant as Scott Frost talks about win.

The 42-year-old Wood River native is officially Nebraska's head football coach, the school announced Saturday afternoon. Frost's father, Larry, played at Nebraska from 1967 to 1969, and was a high school football coach for more than 40 years.

UCF head coach Scott Frost had always been expected to be the next head coach at Nebraska, but late in the fourth quarter with UCF tangling with Memphis to keep its New Years Six bowl hopes and undefeated season intact came the reports of Frost's impending departure from Orlando to Lincoln.

A press conference has been scheduled for Sunday at Noon.
