Wikileaks was merely trying to draw the Trump campaigns attention to the documents.

Regarding ABC News suspending reporter Brian Ross last week over a faulty report on former White House National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, Trump called Ross a "fraudster", adding that "they should have fired him".

WaPo reports that the email sent to the Trump administration was not sent on September 4, days before the leak went public, but on September 14, one day afterwards. "We have updated our story to include the correct date, and present the proper context for the timing of email". By rushing articles to print without fact-checking, these reporters are exacerbating a lack of trust in journalists, undermining special counsel Robert Mueller's very real investigation, and fueling unequivocal dismissals of Trump wrongdoing as "fake news". Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, also attacked CNN and CBS News. A network spokesperson said that as soon as the network had reviewed its reporting and independently confirmed that the story was wrong, it moved to correct it. CBS News also corrected its story.

But, and by the way, did you see all the corrections the media has been making?

Trump Jr last month released a series of private Twitter exchanges between himself and WikiLeaks during and after the 2016 election, including pleas from the website to publicise its leaks.

Candidate Donald Trump, his son Donald Trump Jr. and others in the Trump Organization received an email in September 2016 offering a decryption key and website address for hacked WikiLeaks documents, according to an email provided to congressional investigators.

Mr Trump Jr, according to sources who spoke to CNN, said the messages he shared were akin to speaking to any major media outlet.

"We understand that the media reported 12 hours prior to this email that the DNC emails had been hacked or leaked", Alan Futerfas, a lawyer for Trump Jr, told CNN.

CBS News published a photo of the email - which did not include any information on the date it was sent.

As it turns out, however, that email was actually sent on September 14, the day following the documents' publication, rendering the "exclusive scoop" by CNN a non-story.

The email came two months after the hacked emails of the Democratic National Committee were made public and one month before WikiLeaks began leaking the contents of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta's hacked emails. Those sources obviously were Democrat committee members or staffers; Donald Jr. testified about the email before the Intelligence Committee on Wednesday.
