Protesters gathered around Neyland Stadium on Sunday to speak against the potential hiring of Greg Schiano as Tennessee's next football coach.
"I have reached out to [Tennessee athletic director] @John_Currie and others in administration at UT expressing that WE as a TN Community do not approve of Schiano".
Starting to see some signs now. At the time, Currie was at Kansas State managing the potential departure of Bill Snyder as head coach, which allowed him to treat almost every year like he was going through a coaching search. Schiano spent a little over a decade as the head coach of Rutgers University. He posted a 68-67 record at Rutgers from 2001 to 2011, and had an 11-21 record leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Schiano's history is shoddy, predominantly a stint at Penn State during the early 1990s, and it didn't help that former coach Mike McQueary stated past year that Schiano was aware of the sex scandal involving Jerry Sandusky.
After a failed venture in the NFL, Schiano returned to the college ranks with the Buckeyes back in 2016. The question has been whether Schiano knew the truth about Sandusky, who since has been convicted of serial sexual abuse against children. A guard said he was instructed to "hold down the fort" in preparation for a team meeting scheduled Sunday evening.
The Tennessee Volunteers just finished their worst season-at least by total wins-since 1977, going 4-8 with zero victories in SEC play.
