Howard's career spanned over 60 years during which he worked in film and television.
Rance Howard, father to Ron Howard and grandfather to Bryce Dallas Howard, has died at the age of 89. As Ron turned to directing, his father continued collaborating with him, co-writing and appearing in his son's feature debut as a director, the Roger Corman production Grand Theft Auto.
Rance's own career as an actor spandex many decades, landing his first Hollywood movie role in 1956's Frontier Woman, later appearing in A Beautiful Mind, Chinatown, and The Lone Ranger. Sadly, the veteran actor who appeared in several of his son's films has passed away at 89. "He stood especially tall [for] his ability to balance ambition [with] great personal integrity". A depression-era farm boy, his passion for acting changed the course of our family history.
On the behalf of himself and his brother Clint Howard, Ron took his Twitter and gave the fans a sad news of his father's death. "We love & miss U Dad".
Josh Gad, a close friends of the Howard family, took to social media on Saturday to express his sadness at Rance's passing.
Howard was married to actor Jean Speegle Howard, who died in 2000.
William Earl Brown, an American actor, writer, producer and musician, best known for his role as Dan Dority on the HBO series "Deadwood" remembered Howard and wrote "Rance showed me, by example, how to have a Life in show business".
He also appeared in numerous films Ron directed, including Angels & Demons, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Apollo 13, and directorial debut Grand Theft Auto. He also appeared in Alexander Payne's directorial film Nebraska.
