The companies will deploy each other's cloud solutions internally, and encourage joint support services to run SAP software on Azure cloud services. Microsoft plans to use SAP S/4HANA from Azure, replacing its existing SAP implementation, for tracking its internal financial operations. And SAP Ariba now uses Azure, and the company will explore further use within its procurement applications.
Chris Pendleton, Principal Program Manager, Microsoft Azure IoT at Microsoft Corp. added, "Cubic Telecom's rich collection of location-based data on Microsoft Azure provides the opportunity to consider a wide range of public and private applications for customers".
"Building on our longtime partnership, Microsoft and SAP are harnessing each other's products to not only power our own organizations, but to empower our enterprise customers to run their most mission-critical applications and workloads with SAP S/4HANA on Azure", commented Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, in a November 27 announcement. "Building on our longtime partnership, Microsoft and SAP are harnessing each other's products to not only power our own organizations, but to empower our enterprise customers to run their most mission-critical applications and workloads with SAP S/4HANA on Azure".
Although they are stalwart competitors in the business software space, Microsoft and SAP have found common ground in the fast-growing market for enterprise cloud services. According to research firm Gartner, two-thirds of all business leaders believe that their companies must pick up the pace of digitalization to remain competitive.
In a deal announced this week, Microsoft and SAP said they will work together to optimize SAP's cloud and enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions for Microsoft's Azure platform.
"We are taking our partnership to the next level with this new capability to run SAP S/4HANA in the Microsoft Azure environment", said McDermott.
Microsoft announced that "Azure Location Based Services" will be launched in 2018 and will be available globally in more than 30 languages.
The companies have been working to run SAP business software on Azure for a number of years.
SAP also plans to move about a dozen of its own internal business critical systems to Azure. This includes the SAP S/4HANA software supporting Concur, an SAP company. Both companies will document their projects so they can share their application deployment experiences with customers. By the same token, SAP agreed to run its HANA database software on Azure. Microsoft customers will benefit from high-quality location data from TomTom's unique global community and its global partner network, whose users continually provide active and passive map and traffic data insights. "The value of aligned engineering, sales and delivery between these two strategic partners will allow our system to accelerate our digital agenda".
The partnership is also a major win for customers, Mueller said. They included Coca-Cola, Columbia Sportswear, Coats and Costco.
The move follows a similar cross-cloud integration partnership made between Microsoft and Adobe previous year.
