The 350-pound (160-kilogram) gingerbread house in the State Dining Room offers a view of the White House from the South Lawn, with wreaths on every window and a US flag flying from its sugary rooftop.

The gingerbread house, according to the White House, highlights Melania's "vision for classic Christmas décor" and "reflects the southern exterior of the Executive Residence with green wreaths and traditional red bows on every window".

More than 25,000 visitors are expected to visit the White House, and many open houses and receptions will be held there over the holiday season.
