President Donald Trump again derided the National Football League on Friday amid news one of his former top official has cut off ties with the president's lawyers. The only reason for the split would be a conflict of interest.
Lawyers for Flynn have reportedly stopped sharing information about special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing probe with the White House, a move the Times notes could signal Flynn's cooperation with the investigation or that he is in the process of negotiating some sort of legal deal. At the time, Flynn denied having discussed US sanctions with Kislyak, but the claim was false.
Interviews conducted by special counsel investigators have included questions about the business dealings of Flynn and his son such as their firm's reporting of income from work overseas, two witnesses interviewed by the team previously told CNN.
Months later, the company admitted in documents filed under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) that their work 'could be construed to have principally benefitted the Republic of Turkey'.
Among the interactions that Mr. Mueller is investigating is a private meeting that Mr. Flynn had with the Russian ambassador and Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law, during the presidential transition.
"Can you believe that the disrespect for our Country, our Flag, our Anthem continues without penalty to the players", he said, shortly after the New York Times reported former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn could be moving to cooperate with an investigation into the Trump campaign's possible ties to Russian Federation.
Former Trump campaign officials Paul Manafort and Rick Gates already face charges relating to their undisclosed foreign lobbying for Ukraine. Both have pleaded not guilty.
